We have Veterans Employment Representatives, who are veterans themselves, specifically trained to assist you in transitioning from the military, finding a new job, or starting a new career! Some of the services we provide include:
Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) helps trade-affected workers who have lost their jobs as a result of increased imports or shifts in production out of the United States. TAA benefits and services are provided to help eligible workers get back to work. Workers who are certified adversely affected by foreign trade must apply for individual services and benefits through their local career center to determine individual eligibility for reemployment services and benefits.
Affected workers may receive one or more of the following Reemployment Trade Act Services at the career centers:
Have you thought about going back to school to start a new career? Please come in and talk with one of our career counselors to discuss a new career path today. Funds may be available to individuals for classroom/occupational skills training, or On-the-Job Training. To receive funding, the training you take must be completed in two years or less and can take place at traditional colleges or vocational schools. Areas of study include, but are not limited to: Licensed Practical Nursing, Medical Transcription, Medical and Dental Assisting, Security Guard Training, CDL-A Truck Driving, Computer Applications and Computer Networking.

A program that places individuals with local employers where they receive training while earning a paycheck. We are currently looking for businesses who would like to be considered as a worksite as funds become available. Participating employers are eligible for up to 50% reimbursement for wages paid to a trainee during the training period. For more information contact your local Career Center.
Self-paced online learning program which is offered through New York Wired. The Metrix E-learning catalog contains over 4400 courses including 400 Medcom healthcare training courses and over 4000 Skillsoft training courses that include software applications, business and finance, IT skills and industrial areas. The Metrix system also includes an assessment component called Prove-It which validates skill mastery in over 900 areas. Please be sure to talk with your local career center about this exciting opportunity.
Need help with reading, writing or computer skills? Adult education programs offered through Capital Region BOCES can assist with basic skills needs, TASC preparation or English as a Second Language (ESL). Your local Literacy New York Greater Capital Region provides assistance in basic reading, TASC help and ESL. TASC Preparation Programs are available to prepare you for the five test areas of reading, writing, social studies, science, and mathematics.
